With 63% of all U.S. households having pets, this is a topic that we come across pretty often.

Though we love our furry family members, they can be a bit tough on our floors.

Go to our FULL BLOG POST to read all the details, but here's a quick overview of how your hardwood floors and your beloved household pets can get along...

Choose the right Wood Species -

Let's face it- not all wood is alike; in fact, there are tons of different species of hardwood, all having their own unique characteristics and traits...

If you want to install a hardwood floor that you know for sure will last you for years to come (even with your furry friends) a good place to start looking is the Janka Scale.  The Janka scale will tell you, basically, how hard a species is.  That doesn't necessarily mean head to the top of the scale and that's the right wood for you.... It is, rather, a point of reference for your search to begin.  It can clear up any confusion you may have about hard or soft woods.

That IS one thing we pride ourselves on here at The Couture Floor Company; we know our hardwood species very well, and can surely point you in the right direction for your home.

Avoid spills and accidents-

Any kind of moisture (spills from water bowl, pet accidents, wet paws from outside, etc.) when left unattended for long enough, can cause major damage and unnecessary wear to your hardwood floors.

Take precautions to avoid these issues by avoiding them ahead of time.  You can do things like -

Add waterproof mats underneath your pets food and water bowls;

Put outdoor pet-booties on them when they go outside, and then remove them when they come back in;

Be sure to clean up any spills or accidents as soon as possible, taking extra care when the spill or accident is on an area rug.
