ORIGIN - Central America

COMMONNAMES - Rosewood, Cocobolo

Cocobolo hardwood flooring gave this home a colorful yet rustic look.

Cocobolo, (Dalbergia Retusa)

Cocobolo can be seen in a kaleidoscope of different colors, ranging from yellow, orange, red, and shades of brown with streaks of black or purple. Sapwood is typically a very pale yellow. Colors are lighter when freshly sanded/cut, and darken with age. Cocobolo is oily in look and feel. This oil lends a strong, unmistakable floral odor even to well seasoned wood and occasionally stains the hands with prolonged exposure.  It's a truly beautiful, natural color and would make a great border or accent piece.

Characteristics -

Commonly referred to as Cocobolo, the "Dalbergia Retusa" is a mid-sized, canopy tree reaching 45 to 60 feet in height in the natural rainforest, with trunk diameters up to 3 feet.  The heartwood is surrounded by white sap wood.  The sapwood which is as dense as the heartwood, will vary in amount depending on the age of the tree and the conditions of its habitat.  The poorly formed stems yield the most uniquely figured and highly-prized wood.
